Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte

I’ve read some very mixed reviews of Kirsten Dunst’s choice of gown at the recent Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, but I personally loved it. Of course, I’m biased because of a few things: I love Kirsten, I love lace, and I love, love, love Rodarte!

Really, how pretty is the detailing in this dress? The beads and the feathered edge add wonderful textured elements and the draping, my favorite part, perfectly adds a little more femininity around the bodice. I also like the effect of the short dress beneath the sheer lacey fabric. It makes the gown a little younger and a bit more modern, but it keeps the vintage and romantic vibe at the same time.

It’s no surprise to see Kirsten wearing Rodarte (or, in this case, Rodarte for Gap) on the red carpet; the starlet maintains a close friendship with the Mulleavy sisters (if you’re not familiar with Kate and Laura and their wonderful line, check out my previous post for more information) and the designs always seem to look wonderful on her.

Now let’s talk about those shoes.

For anyone who attended Rodarte’s Fall 2010 RTW show at this year’s New York Fashion Week, either in person or through the online streaming video, you’ll remember these boots designed by Nicholas Kirkwood. The show’s finale included a black light and the heels were illuminated. As much as it was love-at-first-site for me and the clothes, it took me until about ten minutes after the show to realize that I loved the boots as well. I don’t think I would have been as fond of them if I hadn’t seen them in such a unique display, and even after Fashion Week I was more than a little curious to see how they would look off the runway. Now that I've seen them paired with Kirsten's gown, I love the additional vintage effect and the way they extend the white silhouette all the way to her toes!

You know, I am not sure that I even saw this gown on her. It's so lovely! I adore the details and she looks really nice in it!

I think the boots would look better paired with a different outfit though. I'm not liking it with that dress.

Lovely post!
