It's Coat Season!

Sorry for the slightly late post. My internet was being all faily last night when I was trying to put this post together, but let's get this show on the road.

It's that time of year again. The weather has cooled. Fall is officially here and it's time to break out the coats. I'm originally from Los Angeles where coat-wearing weather doesn't really start until at least the end of November and is over by March, but now that I'm living in London, it's already cold enough for me to start wearing coats on a regular basis, so I thought I'd do a post about them.

I've found several coats in a variety of styles and price ranges (including some listed in British pounds because now that I'm living across the pond, I've gottta represent) and I thought it might be fun to talk about them.

Old Navy - $59.50
I actually own this pea coat in brown. It's a nice, basic coat that you can get in a ton of shades. I know that I've seen this style in-store in more shades than are listed on the website, so it's definitely worth going down to the actual store to see what's available.

Old Navy - $89.50
I LOVE this coat. I love the texture in the fabric and I love that it comes in this vivid pink as well as other more basic colors. I'm actually hoping that they'll still be selling this coat when I go home to the States for Christmas in December so that I try it on and maybe buy it.

MANGO - £119.90
I love tweed coats because I think it's an interesting play on the idea of menswear as womenswear. A tweed jacket is very much a masculine piece of clothing, so I love seeing it subverted by using it in womenswear. I like the very tailored look of this coat as well as the big knit collar that draws your eye upwards.

Zara - £79.99
Again with the tweed, but I do really like the sloppy feel of this coat. I think it serves as a nice contrast to the highly tailored look of the coat above. It's a nice casual feel while still utilizing tweed.

Gap - $79.50
A trench coat is a classic, and I love a good trench coat. They make me feel like I just stepped out of a film noir movie. However, I like this one because it's actually a cropped trench coat and dealing a full length one that goes down to my knees can be a bit of a pain on hot and crowded public transportation, so in the spring and autumn, I really prefer to just throw on a cropped lightweight trench.

H&M - £49.99
This is a standard length trench from H&M. I actually really love this one because of the buttons that give the coat a bit of a military feel, making a bit more than just a basic trench. Although I posted the picture of it in black, it is also available in camel.

H&M - £49.99
You know, I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this coat. It has a very military feel which is a bit played out, but... something still draws me to it. Maybe I just really like the highly structured feel and the high collar.

Anyway, discuss! Did you like any of the coats I picked out? Do you have some coats you love that you want to share in the comments? What styles do you tend to gravitate towards?

Love this post! I really like the first coat, although I'd also prefer it in a different color. The Tweed coat and the one from Gap are both really cute. I don't own anything in tweed but I'd try it out for sure! LOVE both of the H&M coats too! So gorgeous!

I love all of these coats! I don't need a regular peacoat though, so the first is out. But the others...how to choose?

Gorgeous post, Karen! I'm loving all your picks, especially the ones from across the pond. The Mango coat is perfection. I love tweed because, for some reason, it reminds me of people like Katharine Hepburn. I think it has to do with that element of the masculine being made feminine (Kate was known for wearing trousers, etc.) It's just very classic, but still exciting. Great fun. And I love the military look! I don't have much experience (at all) in that trend but I'm fascinated by it this year. (:
