Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2011

Yesterday Oscar de la Renta showcased his Pre-Fall 2011 collection in New York - and, as always, there was not an ounce of glamour left out. Of the fifty-nine looks that hit the runway it was quite difficult to slim down my list of favorites! There were so many elements in this collection; something I love about M. de la Renta, he goes where his girl goes. And sometimes we de la Renta girls can be a little sporadic in our styles! Certainly, he caters to our fairy tale whims with his opulent gowns, but Oscar goes beyond that to the reality of the working woman, the sophisticated socialite and the fashion adventurer. He's been in the business of dressing women for so long that he knows our minds and emotions, and he knows just what we're looking for in fashion.

I was thrilled to see this pattern - I call it a sort of tweed, though whether or not it technically is tweed, I'm not sure - so prominently featured in the collection. It was an element that made Prada's A/W 2010 collection one of my favorites. (Plus, I have a skirt suit in the design which happens to be a favorite, so now I can feel utterly in vogue!)

Alternately, a bold color palette was equally prominent yesterday. Here are some examples of the greens worked into the collection. I love the vintage vibe of the second look with the long skirt, scarf at the shoulders and those stunning gloves. The first look rocks an hourglass shape that I simply don't get tired of seeing, and I love the added character in the big belt and oversized buttons.

Two of the pieces I'm coveting: those gorgeous burnt trousers and the cowl neck sweater. I love the way the trousers were styled with such a graphic printed blouse and statement scarf. The cowl neck sweater's accessory, a bold broach, is another element I love. There isn't enough attention to broaches. They need to make a very strong comeback!

I loved the contrast of the fur coat and soft dress in the first look, it's a marriage of two wonderful styles. The second dress, however, is one of my favorite pieces from the whole collection. I love the neckline, the overall shape of the dress and the splash of color in the belt.

I love the way these looks both showcase the different shapes the collection explored. The gray skirt is classic and streamlined, while the second look personifies relaxed elegance. I love the way Oscar brought in all of these very traditional ideas and made them into something at once unique and classic.

And lastly, my two very favorite looks from the entire fifty-nine. I love the fur vest and everything that comes with it! The gloves, the shades, those rockin' boots. It's a very sharp, chic, city look. Secondly, this pantsuit had me from its first turn on the catwalk. I love a good pantsuit with a nip high at the waist, and the addition of the fur here adds wonderful substance.

Oh my gosh, you're kidding! I had no idea. I need to make it a habit to check style.com more often. Were there no big gowns?

I really appreciate all the different looks and fun patterns. These are gorgeous pieces!
