Our Favorites from the Golden Globes

It's the most glamorous time of the year! Awards season is here and we're gushing over our favorite looks. First up are the Golden Globes, which aired on Sunday night. Here are some of the starlets we loved as they glided down the red carpet...

Natalie Portman

Natalie's satin Viktor & Rolf gown is not an absolute favorite of mine however I adore the way it fits and the way it compliments her baby bump. I don't think she could've chosen a better dress for herself. The color is lovely and although the rose may be a bit awkward to some, it's unique and makes the simple gown a little more fancy. Her up-do and accessories are in my eyes, perfect. She was definitely glowing that night!

Olivia Wilde

I admit, I'm a little obsessed with Olivia's strapless ballgown by Marchesa. If you can't tell, it's covered in gold sequins. Oh how I love me some sparkly! I would take this dress in an instant if it were offered to me. Her gold spiked heel might be too much sparkly, but the spikes definitely balance out the femininty of the dress. It's fun! I would've liked to see her hair up, with perhaps a real simple necklace. Casee and I talked a lot about how the hair-dos didn't always seem to compliment the gowns at the Golden Globes this year. Let's hope for better at the Oscars!

Anne Hathaway

Didn't Rachel Zoe do a lovely job styling Anne is this bronze sequined Armani Prevé? Besides the extremely low back, this dress is in the words of Rachel Zoe "On another level." It's literally covered in sequins from head-to-toe. I also love that she left her hair down, it's too pretty to pin up! Anne's overall look was definitely one of my favorites of the night.

Carrie Underwood

I love so much of what Carrie wears to events like these. That night she wore a gorgeous silver sparkly gown by Badgley Mischka. Doesn't it compliment that angelic face? Everything about her look is perfect. I wish more of the ladies' hair were as pretty as hers! Notice also how flawless her make-up is! What a beauty!

Angelina Jolie

This emerald-green Versace' gown on Angelina is gorgeous. The color looks amazing on her and it really brings out the beauty in her eyes. I adore the lowered back and feel it creates such an elagant look. I think Angelina is one of those women who can wear her hair down with any dress and still look incredible. What a star!

Other honorable mentions: Catherina Zeta-Jones in Monique Lhuillier, Amy Adams in Marchesa, Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab and Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier.

Helena Bonham Carter

I could write a book on why I liked Helena Bonham Carter's frazzled hair and dizzying Vivienne Westwood frock, but I'll try to keep it short. The more I looked at it the more I respected her for her originality and the more I began to understand the look as only Helena could rock it. She could have changed herself and her style to fit in with the red carpet crowd, but she didn't. She looked at those cameras fearlessly and said, Life's too short to wear matching shoes! And I said, "You go, girl." The other thing I loved about Helena's look - and more than likely the only part I will try myself - is her make-up. She undoubtedly had my favorite make-up of the night. I love how it emphasizes her features in a subtly dramatic way.

(I should mention that her shoes are not actually mismatched, just different colors.)

Leighton Meester

I was loving Leighton in this romantic dress from the Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2011 collection. I love the color and shape on her, and the draped effect at the shoulders. The Cathy Waterman earrings were a lovely way to accessorize, and of course those amazing Jimmy Choo shoes.

Kyra Sedgwick

As lovely as this Emilio Pucci dress is, I think it's the jewels that make the look. I was feeling a severe lack of accessories on the red carpet - did I miss the memo, are necklaces suddenly out? Hardly anyone had jewels. Not only did Kyra's compliment her golden gown, they look like they were made for it!

Julianne Hough

I loved the way this look was simultaneously strong and chic on Julianne. The statement collar on the dress (Marchesa) is so striking, and the pops of vibrant gold in the Judith Leiber clutch and the ring (I don't know the designer) do a great job of sort of balancing the whole thing out. I loved her make-up as well; simple, but dramatic.

Milla Jovovich

I was torn between a few looks for my fifth favorite, but it came down to the beautiful Milla Jovovich and her stunning Armani Privé. I love this shade and the strings of embellishment between the wrapped folds of the dress. It's dainty and unique, but it's also very structured which I like. I would have loved to see a little necklace, but I loved the jewels she did accessorize with. The cuff bracelets and straight earrings carry the bling from the dress to her entire look.

Other honorable mentions: Julia Stiles in Romona Keveza, Emma Stone in Calvin Klein, Tiny Fey in L'Wren Scott and Julie Bowen in Tadashi Shoji

  1. There were definitely some amazing looks that night! Lovely post! xx

  2. All of these looks are beautiful! My faves have to be Olivia, Anne, Angelina, Leighton, Kyra, and Milla! :)

  3. Helena's hair drives me a bit crazy and I don't like the different colored shoes. However, I do like that she is simply being herself as you stated. I actually like the colors/print on the dress too!

Leighton is a sweetheart! Something about her reminds me of Gabbie! Anyhow, I thought this dress was really lovely and it totally suits her.

The dress color on Kyra isn't my favorite but I love the style. Definitely agree about the jewelry!

    Can't wait for the Oscars!

  4. Great post girls. I really agreed with you both. Yahoo.com was soooo negative about most of the outfits, it was depressing.

  5. I loved the gowns this year! I think most looked great! I loved Natalie (but not her lipstick), Carrie, Olivia (though not the hair), Kyra (feels like the beach), and Milla. I also loved Catherine Zeta-Jones. Gorgeous in emerald!

  6. Helen Looked amazing !!!!

I Love her dress, crazy hair and her shoes !!! And they do go with the
I just hate how the critics put her
down just she is being different and not like all the others there

  7. I loved Natalie as well, the rose was perfect. I think in years to come it will be universally acknowledged as a great moment in fashion. I was also a big fan of Helena Bonham Carter's look. Thanks so much for putting her on a best dressed list! It was so daring, and so utterly her. It would have been useless of her to show up in some plain satin strapless thing. And Vivianne Westwood is perfect for her! Thanks again, I thought I was the only one giving her a thumbs up!
