Casee Marie's Fashion Week Favorites

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has been rocking New York since Thursday - - in case you didn’t know. It’s been a really interesting journey to Fall 2011, for certain. There are some rather prominent trends, such as sheers and tartans, but there have also been some singular fabulous moments from each of the designers as well. Rather than share my favorite collections I thought it would be fun to spotlight the specific elements or single pieces I liked the most from different designers. I tried to keep it short but…well, that didn’t really work out. Ha!

Chantilly lace t-shirt and cable knit sweater from ADAM
I’m also loving the blue (that shade is a huge trend) and the way the collection flirted with bohemian chic. Adam Lippes’ small workshop for hand-knitting his sweaters burned down not long ago so he hired a local ladies’ knitting circle to recreate his sweater designs for the runway. I want one!

Peter Pan collars and porkpie hats at DKNY
I felt like Donna Karan really reacquainted herself with the youthfulness of the DKNY line in this collection with elements like the Peter Pan collars and porkpie hats. I think they gave it a whimsical, indie rock vibe that feels a bit freer than the Spring 2011 collection (although I loved that too). And I’m loving the red pants!

Boots at Altuzarra
These boots! I love the knee-high lace-ups, especially. They make such a cool statement and the overall shape is very strong and chic. The same can be said for the white pair, and I love that they offer a bit less drama. Also digging the argyle shirt, I have to say.

EVERYTHING at Carolina Herrera
I’m pretty sure that everyone knows Carolina Herrera is one of my favorites. She’s sophisticated and refined, but never stuffy. She offers all the elements of fashion that I love in this collection. I’m totally feeling the ‘50s and ‘60s vibe from these two pieces particularly. They remind me a lot of Marilyn Monroe. I love how she seemed to focus on the feminine silhouette with lots of belts and nipped waists, such as the picture at the left.

Wide trousers and knits at Charlotte Ronson
On a completely different note, I loved the bohemian rocker vibe at Charlotte Ronson and especially the ultra comfy-looking wide-leg trousers. I want a pair! I'm a fan of oversized knits, too, so these cardigans were fun to see. I like how she managed to pair them with the wide pants without making the overall look sluggish or over-the-top.

Dresses at Costello Tagliapietra
I was particularly fond of the dress on the left at Costello Taliapietra, something about the cowl neck, nipped waist and loose-flowing sleeves was very appealing. It looks comfortable without losing its style. The dress on the right was similar in design, but offered a more minimalist approach, I think. I’m noticing a lot of loose sleeves gathered at the wrist like this. I think it’s very flattering.

High-neck blouses at Jason Wu
Jason Wu described his collection as "Austere". It’s a very classy collection, but not boring either. I loved these blouses with the high necks and bow ties. There were so many of them in different shades, it’s just a fun trend that also evokes a bit of history, which is a favorite aspect of mine in fashion.

Prints at Lela Rose
I was crazy about these prints, inspired by artist Gerhard Richter and his method of chipping paint away from the canvas. I don’t wear many prints at all and I hardly ever wear color, but I thought these were a brilliant and exciting avenue. I’d totally love to try the pants when I’m feeling particularly wild – although everything else I’d wear with them would undoubtedly be black. Hey, it’s a start!

I am overwhelmed with fashion right now...and it's the greatest feeling ever! :) Loving the Jason Wu looks, something about a high neck blouse is so sexy! I suspect red pants are going to be all the rage this spring/summer - at least they will be for me...still on the hunt for the right pair but once I find them it is so on!!

I've been unable to follow Fashion Week as you know so all this stuff is new to me!

Everything looks lovely! I especially like the pieces from Carolina Herrera, Charlotte Ronson and Tagliapietra. I also like the black/white pieces from Jason Wu and the color patterns from Lela Rose. Now, I just have to look at the full collections!
