Emma Watson for People Tree

Late last month everyone's favorite wand-wielding petite pixie launched her third eco-chic collection for People Tree. The spring line showcases everything from floral prints to gingham, bohemian-inspired designs to a bit more retro fare. I was impressed with the styles from the lookbook and it's such a delight to see influential people putting a focus on fair trade. What exactly is fair trade?

Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers – especially in the South...Fair Trade organizations have a clear commitment to Fair Trade as the principal core of their mission. They, backed by consumers, are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade...Fair Trade is more than just trading: it proves that greater justice in world trade is possible. It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows how a successful business can also put people first.
- World Fair Trade Organization

Each item was made by producers from one of People Tree's partners. They're located anywhere from Bangladesh to India. Take Folk for example, who made the Bella Silk dress below. According to People Tree, "Folk Bangladesh works with over 600 artisans, of which many are women from tribal and indigenous groups, providing them with fair wages, loans and health insurance." Not only is it great to know your purchase is supporting such an ethical and helpful organization, but to know that each piece is created by these women, though following Emma's designs, with their own sense of craftsmanship is so exciting!

A few dresses from Emma’s collection, clockwise from left:
Sienna Print Dress - £55 | Sophie Dot Dress - £68 | Bella Silk Dress - £95
Lucy Wrap Dress - £48 | Carlotta Floral Dress - £65
Click the links for more information on the producers of each dress.

Kudos to Emma for providing fab fashion and keeping us grounded. I hope more people will follow her lead.

I love the work of the photographer! The colors and lighting in these photos are amazing! Hopefully that wasn't too random?

The dresses are so simple and feminine. I especially like the Sophie Dot Dress and the Bella Silk Dress.

Thanks for sharing!

I can't believe I'd never heard about People Tree, or Emma Watson designing/in collaboration with them. The pieces look beautiful and perfect for the spring/summer. Emma looks beautiful and classy as ever. I always try to buy Fairtrade cotton where possible, it makes making a purchase feel even better. Thank you for this post Casee! xo
