Seven Steps to Seventies Style

What a mouthful, I know! The seventies seem to be back with a vengence this spring and as I mentioned in my previous Three's Company-infused outfit post...I'm kind of excited. I've never attempted to try the seventies look, but as the fashion magazines continue to highlight the perks of the scene I'm finding more and more elements that I'm suddenly itching to try. So I went hunting online for my top seven favorites (in no particular order). Let's get to it!

Midi skirts
Champs-Élysées Skirt; $89, Talbots
Garden Print Full Skirt; $89, Talbots
I love mid-length skirts for their versatility and comfort. I think full skirts better capture the eclectic style of the seventies, but I love that you can easily pair them with a fitted blouse and kitten heels for the ever-lovely Mad Men look. Very Betty Draper. Talbots has a wonderful selection, although I also found this one on Urban Outfitters for $38.

High waist trousers
J Brand "Love Story" Flare Jeans in Dark Vintage Wash; $178, Bloomingdale's
Widelegger Jeans in Explorer Wash; $125, Madewell
Rich Indigo Hihg Waist Flare Jeans; $28.69, ASOS
I've already talked about my love of high waisted and flare jeans in past posts so I needn't say more. But I will say this: the ASOS jeans are on sale! Yes, please.

Peasant blouses
Heritage Silk Ballet Tunic; $65.99, Banana Republic
Printed Crop Blouse; £35, Miss Selfridge
Something I'm loving lately are these sort of alternative takes on peasant blouses. You can go for the ultra bohemian type, or you can flirt with cropped or tunic-inspired versions like these. Another I loved was this MICHAEL Michael Kors blouse which offers a rather chic take on the style. (And another sale alert, the Miss Selfrige cropped top.)

Platform sandals
Jessica Simpson 'Brinna' Sandal; $88.95, Nordstrom
MICHAEL Michael Kors Ines Sandal; $160, Macy's
Gomax Jacqueline; $55, Piperlime
Chunky sandals are so cool with flare jeans. I shamelessly love that look, it's so summery to me. While I'm really curious about the platform flats that were seen at Fendi and Marc Jacobs I'm not seeing much of them in the inexpensive markets. In the meantime, I'll take some of these!

Cross-body bags
B. Makowsky Dina Convertible Bag; $194.60, Zappos
Fossil "Key-Per" Bag; $58, Dillard's
Fossil Leather Crossbody Bag; $55, Macy's
I have a cross-body bag or two but I never actually wear them that way. I love the idea of a little structured one paired with one of the aforementioned midi skirts, but I'm also loving the graphic prints from Fossil and B. Makowsky's convertible slouchy version (which is also on sale! Thank you, Bruce!).

Wide brimmed hats
Helen Kaminski 'Melody' Hat; $75, Nordstrom
Helen Kaminski 'Enu' Hat; $98, Saks Fifth Avenue
Love me some wide-brimmed floppy hats. Who doesn't?

Chunky accessories
MNG by Mango Wood Bangle; $19.92, JC Penney
Rock Candy Necklace; $38, Anthropologie
Marc by Marc Jacobs Vintage Inspired Sunglasses; $98, Nordstrom
I'm ready to rock the vibrant, oversized accessories this year. Big sunnies, statement necklaces, it's all so fun. I like the very natural, raw elements in jewlery for the seventies look, too, like this wooden bangle from MNG by Mango.

What do you think, ladies? Are there any elements of the seventies trend that you're especially excited about?

After looking at all the styles of the 70s, I think this era was meant for my style. I absolutely love the 60s and 70s styles. I can't wait to incorporate the 70s to my wardrobe and I want all those shoes! Can't believe the price of those jeans too. Just got a coupon- might have to pick me up a pair! hehe :)
