Thinking of whatever makes you happy is a natural medicine that can definitely work! I say "can", because it might not always work. In those cases, it's best to try other things that make you feel happy and safe. I feel many different things when I'm anxious. Some of those things feel like a huge weight pushing me downward or like I'm trapped in a small space. But when I direct my thoughts to something positive, I can feel my wings! And if I'm really successful, I feel like I can fly again!

Sometimes it comes easy, but there might be times when you have to tell yourself to think of a happy thought over and over again before it works. Don't give up so fast! If you begin drifting back to what it was that started the anxious feelings, you gotta think of something else until all you're thinking about are good things. Things that make you happy. I have found this especially useful lately when I've been trying to sleep. My anxiety has been getting in the way and it's been no fun. But trying to be positive by thinking about something happy (along with praying) really helps. I'd rather not be thinking about anything, but falling asleep to positive thoughts is so much better.

Together, we can #fightagainstanxiety ! Last November was when I first spoke about anxiety and after your responses, it inspired me to write more about it in a post called Overcoming Anxiety with Truth. I hope to continue to encourage you and make you feel less alone in this battle!

Great post Jen. Lately at work I have been having a lot of anxiety attacks. I know what causes them. I just need to learn more about the issues. I start crying and its hard to breathe. I take deep breathes to calm myself down.

This was such a timely post, Jen! The anxiety itself is hard enough, but I find that sometimes there's also a sadness that comes along when you realize how some things that come easily to most people (like driving) can be so difficult for you. I've been dealing with that sort of thing a lot lately. Writing in my journal helps me to better understand my emotions (and I always try to keep my journal-writing positive), but another thing I find really useful is keeping a folder of inspirational quote images on my phone. If I'm about to drive somewhere and I'm feeling anxious, I'll sit in the car, turn on the ignition, and then take a breath and read some of the quotes before I head out. These are my two go-tos:

I keep a Pinterest board called "courage, dear heart" that I pin inspiring quotes to, and sometimes I'll go through that as well. :)
